Outdoor Gravity Park: Zorbing Comes To The Smoky Mountains

Zorbing is a fun trend that is sweeping the nation, and Outdoor Gravity Park is bringing the family fun to the heart of the Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge. Zorbing involves rolling around inside an inflatable plastic sphere – hitting a ball is old-school, now we roll around inside one!

The History of Zorbing

The first time you see a person zorbing you might think to yourself, “Was someone watching a hamster run around in a ball when they came up with this?” Well, the answer is, “Yeah. Kind of.” Legend has it that a group of extreme sports enthusiasts were inspired by the small plastic hamster balls in the 1980s to build a version for humans. Their particular design didn’t catch on, but let’s flash-forward to the mid 1990s, when two New Zealand natives took the same concept and created the inflatable zorb ball that we know today.

Thanks to the thrills of rolling down a hill at up to 30 miles per hour plus the inherent safety of the inflatable sphere, zorbing became a big hit with kids and adults alike and has since taken the world by storm. Now you and your family have a chance to experience it for yourselves as a part of your Great Smoky Mountains adventure.

Why People Love Zorbing

Zorbing combines our love of thrills with knowing that we’ll end up unharmed. Most of all, it’s simply exhilarating fun, and it’s a great experience to share with your family and friends. In fact, at Outdoor Gravity Park in Pigeon Forge, their specially-designed outdoor gravity orb (OGO) zorb ball can accommodate up to three people on a single roll. You’ll also have the opportunity to strap a GoPro camera on and record the experience to relive it over and over again. Then you’ll have no problem convincing anyone who didn’t come with you to hop in the OGO the next time!

Zorbing for All Seasons

Outdoor Gravity Park now offers two distinct zorbing experiences. Throughout the year you can participate in wet zorbing, which is the most popular zorbing experience at the park. As you jump into your OGO, ten gallons of water are added so that you can have a wet and wild journey down the zorbing course. You’ll be sliding in the slippery water while the 11-foot tall sphere moves around you, attaining breathtaking speeds along the way. The staff uses warm water in the cooler temperatures, and cool water when it heats up outside, so you’ll always be comfortable. Additionally, you have the option to participate in dry zorbing, without the water, during the cooler periods of the year.

About Dusty Camp

Dusty Camp

I moved to the Smoky Mountains a few years ago from Alabama - a big change, but one I'm glad I made. I like meeting all the different types of people who visit here, and getting to know a little bit about them. I love to watch all the wildlife throughout Cades Cove, but most of all I like winter, waking up to see everything covered in snow and icicles.
