If you love to fish you already know that this Smoky Mountains area is a great place to cast a lure, not just from the scenery all around but also for the wildlife in the waters, the abundance and variety of fish in the many streams that cut the terrain all around.<\/span><\/p>\n

You probably also know about the Fall Trout Tournament<\/strong> that starts way early<\/strong><\/em> tomorrow morning, Saturday, September 27, 2014, for the weekend – and you’d better be signed up for it already and getting some sleep tonight. All the details on the tournament can be found at the website<\/a>, and you can read what we wrote about the Fall event of last year here<\/a>, and the Spring event of this year here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

20 miles of local streams are stocked with thousands of trout for the tournaments which happen twice a year. $10,000 in prizes is given away each year. Even if you don’t fish well, always remember there’s a $500 prize for smallest<\/em> fish caught as well as numerous other categories, so take heart and cast away!<\/span><\/p>\n

Ober Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

If you’re not fishing early tomorrow morning then maybe you have time tonight to take a tramway ride up to Ober Gatlinburg, our local ski and adventure area, where the annual Oktoberfest started yesterday, September 25, 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n

There will be entertainments, costumes, music, food and beer, all with a Bavarian flavor. Read about it in Ober Gatlinburg’s event page here<\/a> and check out their Activities page here<\/a> if you’re not familiar with the place. Get a taste of the festivities from our Oktoberfest story a while back here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

So – talk about late-breaking news! But not to worry if you didn’t see it coming, we have all October<\/strong> to enjoy the festivities at the ski area, through November 2nd. By then it will be coming on winter, with plenty of snow on the slopes (check our story last winter about that here<\/a>), and our minds filled with seasonal things.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, it’s still only the first weekend of Fall officially, and we’ll admit it now, as we see some color changes happening at the high elevations in the mountains. It’s been a great summer in the Smokies this year, and with a warm weekend tomorrow it’s not over yet.<\/span><\/p>\n

But now it IS Fall. All the famous colors of the Smoky Mountains will come flowing down the slopes over the weeks, and everyone will try to predict the very peak of the Fall color experience.
