Dinner theater in Pigeon Forge has a new addition with Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventures, on stage twice a day with live performances and good old fashioned southern food. The show takes place in the old Lumberjack Feud theater on Parkway, and retains the same sense of acrobatics and high-climbing scale. The new dinner show attraction opened in May, 2017, with Dolly Parton herself presiding over the ceremonies.
The show is unique as it provides a special treat covering the history of one of America’s favorite entertainers with a visual look at the history of Dolly’s parents. Show times are 6 and 8 pm, but you’ll want to arrive early to soak up the atmosphere, listen to the down-home music, and enjoy the sideshows and activities, before sitting down to dine and enjoy the show.
Partons vs Owens
The theme of the dinner show is based on southern pride and family honor, and the many contests and competitions the Partons and Owens participated in back in the day. You’ll pick which family you want to root for when buying tickets and selecting where to sit. Cheer on your contestants as they engage the crowd with non-stop entertainment.
You’ll be taken back in time when Dolly’s parents, Lee Parton and Avie Lee Owens, first set eyes on each other. From that point on, the show plays out the story line of the budding romance between the two, as well as the ongoing rivalry and competition between the two mountain families. It’s an interesting look at the past brought to life with a variety of talented performers, songs, and visual effects that take you on an action-packed journey to the present.
Don’t fall off your seat as you watch aerial excitement performed three stories above the stage. There’s more, with mind-blowing stunts, amazing acrobatic performances, and creative specialty acts that will have you holding your breath in anticipation. The spinning-wheel stunt is jaw-dropping, the ballet using hoops suspended above the stage will have your eyes spinning, and the dogs with their amazing antics may just steal the show. There will be plenty of music, sound effects, banjo picking, singing, dancing, and loads of laughter accompanying the show with its authentic hootenanny atmosphere.
Food, Family and Fun
Along with family pride, honor, and enjoying life to the fullest, food takes its place with a major role in the Tennessee mountains, both past and present. When you visit Dolly’s Smoky Mountains Adventures, bring your appetite so you can thoroughly enjoy Avie Lee’s Sunday Dinner. This includes fried chicken or juicy pulled pork, fluffy homemade biscuits, fresh corn on the cob smothered in butter, and a slice of southern peach pie. When you purchase your tickets, you can also specify vegetarian or gluten free.
