There’s more than one way to enjoy the mountain, and riding down it on a coaster is one of the most fun!<\/p>\n

For many travelers, the perfect Smoky Mountain vacation means relaxing in a rocking chair and taking in those world-famous views. Plenty of other people, however, crave a little adventure and excitement when they visit the Gatlinburg area. Fortunately, when you stay at one of our cabins you\u2019ll have access to both!<\/p>\n

Here is a quick guide to the mountain coaster rides in the Smoky Mountains region that will satisfy your craving for thrills.<\/p>\n

Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster<\/strong> is a family-friendly ride that whisks you down the side of a mountain at exhilarating, yet safe speeds. The track is open both day and night, so it makes a great excursion at any time of day.<\/p>\n\"\"\n

There are several other popular coasters in the downtown Gatlinburg area, including the Ski Mountain Coaster<\/strong> at Ober Mountain, the premier ski area in the region. But the fun doesn\u2019t stop when the snow melts. The Ski Mountain Coaster treats you to beautiful views as you climb up a 1,000-ft. incline, and then allows you to control your own speed as you cruise through the twists and turns on the way down.<\/p>\n

Another destination is Rowdy Bear Mountain<\/strong>, which features a traditional coaster that can reach speeds of up to 35 mph for all the speed demons out there. Rowdy Bear also recently introduced its newest attraction, the Mountain Glider. This unique thrill is the first of its kind, which is a suspended, single-rail coaster that features two lines – essentially a coaster suspended in mid-air. It\u2019s a must-try for any adventure seeker. This venue has also opened a new place in Pigeon Forge, the Smoky Mountain Snowpark<\/strong>, with a coaster and a year-round tubing slope. Meanwhile the Gatlinburg operation has been taken over by Ripley’s<\/strong>. See below for all the new details.<\/p>\n

The Anakeesta Rail Runner Coaster<\/strong> is a blast for riders of almost all ages (3 and up with a companion). This coaster allows you to ride lower to the ground than most others, which means you get a unique vantage point of the tree-lined mountain scenery as you race through tunnels and across bridges.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re in Pigeon Forge, you can also find some excellent coasters to conquer. The coaster at Goats on the Roof<\/strong> features some of the tightest turns and most expansive views in the area. Oh, and the name is literal\u2014there are actual goats on the roof!<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll also find the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster<\/strong> in Pigeon Forge. It\u2019s the original alpine coaster in the Smoky Mountains region, and many people still consider it to be one of the best. Its mile-long track gives you plenty of time to enjoy the speed and savor the views that you can only get in the Smokies. A recent arrival in Pigeon Forge is Rocky Top Mountain Coaster<\/strong>, a new style of coaster with uplifts as well as drops – four of each, so the ride is a good 9 minutes long and features time to relax and enjoy the mountain scenery as the cart ascends another hill, in preparation for the rush of the downhill run.<\/p>\n
