Dollywood Great American Summer 2013

The first day of summer is also the first day of Dollywood’s Great American Summer, from June 21 through August 4 this year. Hours of opening become 3 hours longer, now from 10 am to 10 pm every day. But that’s just the start.

Now begins the summer extravaganza, as Dollywood packs these longer hours with all kinds of entertainments and delights, and caps them each evening starting June 22 with its very special Many Colors fireworks display.

Dolly’s Nights of Many Colors is a fireworks show synchronized with music, lighting the sky with a spectacular parade of colors and themes, and drenching the atmosphere with the emotion of song, including Dolly Parton’s “Paint Your Dreams Across the Sky,” a song she wrote especially for this event. It’s a moving experience that stops you wherever you are in the park – unless you’re on one of the rides, which turns into a lifetime magical memory.

Already in full swing as the summer begins is the Great American Country Show, a daily show featuring six singers and a six-piece band showcasing country music favorites, as well as appearances by country music’s legendary performers. Dollywood teamed up with Great American Country to bring this country music feast, which includes video performances from the hugely popular national GACTV show. See the live performance schedule here.

For the children during this great Dollywood summer, the Little Engine Playhouse presents short sing-along musicals featuring classic children’s stories come to life, and songs specially written by Ms Dolly herself, who also appears by video in each performance. Nothing nicer than kids laughing and singing – dare you not to break out in smiles yourself!

Gazillion Bubbles: New Dimension

As a superb highlight of this year’s Great American Summer, Dollywood continues its tradition of bringing world class entertainment to the Smoky Mountains, with the globally acclaimed (yes, globally) Gazillion Bubbles show.

The world’s greatest bubble artist-scientist, Fan Yang, brings us his truly awe-inspiring new bubble medium stage show. This show amazed New York City and everywhere in the world it has ever played. You’ve never seen bubbles like this, or so many, so colorful, so stretchy – even some with kids inside!

Exciting music, laser lighting effects, multimedia inserts and acrobatics all combine as the lesser ingredients when Yang and his family show us two decades of artistry in a field that is truly like nothing you have ever seen before. Be prepared to feel like a kid again and smile from ear to ear – this is a must see!

Note that Gazillion Bubbles doesn’t play Mondays. And for more details of the Great American Summer show times check the Dollywood web site.

About Carrie Waxler

I've worked for Gatlinburg Falls since March 2011. Lived in TN since 1996. I have now hiked Mt. LeConte three times. I've been on every trail that leads to the top. The last one we hiked up the Boulevard. I have walked my first 2.7 miles on the Appalachian Trail. Only 2176 miles to go. I plan to hike the Appalachian Trail when my children graduate. I also love lake kayaking on Cherokee Lake and Douglas Lake. We take our kayaks camping to middle Tennessee as well for river kayaking. I love talking to guests from the places I've visited or lived. Brings back many good memories. I love to be where people are having fun.
