Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a year-round paradise for fly fishing, with more than 600 miles of streams that support wild trout. You can fly fish any time of year, in this beautiful national park, with no admission fee, and there are even some spring-fed waters that stay mild through the winter. State regulations and park rules do apply, and you need a license, which can be obtained online.

Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Townsend, on the Tennessee side of the national park, are home to fishing outfitters and guides for all levels of experience. You can rent fishing gear and find help to catch your limit and even to clean your fish!

Fly Fishing in the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg

The topography is varied, as with everything in this national park, which teems with wildlife and foliage – and lots of water. See our Smoky Mountain Fishing guide to the rules and best practices for fishing in the park.

The national park doesn’t stock fish, although Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge do stock selected streams with thousands of trout for the annual Trout Tournaments, which are organized by Rocky Top Outfitters, a full-service hunting and fishing outfitter in Pigeon Forge.

Gatlinburg has its own license for fishing within its limits, but for Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a state license from either Tennessee or South Carolina is all you need. Check out our Fishing in Gatlinburg feature page for more information on fly fishing in that happening town.

Your visit to the Smoky Mountains is best enjoyed with a stay in a Gatlinburg cabin rental or Pigeon Forge cabin rental. We also have Wears Valley cabins to rent for your vacation stay, over on the Quiet Side of the Smokies, close to a park.entrance, and near some great fly fishing waters.
