Summer 2016 at Dollywood

What’s on the program at Dollywood this summer? Fun of course, and here are the details on who’s playing, and the special attractions. Summer Lives Here is the summer theme, and it starts on Saturday, June 11, 2016, running through August 7.

There will be shows every day, an evening dance party followed by fireworks every night, and extended hours for the theme park into the night. So if you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to take one of Dollywoods thrilling rides by the light of the moon and starlight, now you can find out – strap in for an unforgettable ride in the dark!

Summertime is for kids, and Dollywood as always offers fun for all the family with treats for the kids. Check the Little Engine Playhouse in the Heartsong Theater. This features 3 children’s books daily, adapted for stage in 20-minute musicals that everyone can sing along to. And in each performance, Dolly Parton herself appears in a special taped segment.

How about some magic? Star billing this year goes to award-winning Brad Ross, at state-of-the-art DP’s Celebrity Theater, with his internationally acclaimed illusionist act – making the impossible happen before your astonished eyes. Willing audience interaction is part of the magical world created by Dale and some very funny comedy, in a vibrant show that you haven’t seen before and won’t forget anytime soon.

Chase this with the star performers of Chris Perondi’s show, the stunt dogs who love to show their skills both on the ground and in the air! Fantastic special effects add to the excitement. These dogs are all rescues adopted from across the country, and now famous from many television appearances throughout the nation. Also at DP’s Celebrity Theater.

If you’re not quite a kid anymore, you may even have some memories of an earlier age, and even if not, the Dreamland Drive-In in the Pines Theater offers a musical trip to the 50s and 60s, with more than a dozen performers recreating the sounds and memories of that time. This is an ongoing show that runs through October 22.

And speaking of the 50s and 60s, you’ll find it impossible not to reminisce this summer as the Gem Tones take their act to the streets of Dollywood, a 5-person troupe likely to pop up anywhere, with acappella musical numbers, and character acts and impersonations. This’ll wake you up! They also appear at Red’s Drive-In in the park.

Not awake yet? Wait for evening to bring Lite the Nite, the dance party with DJ B-Fly, a 15-minute rush of spirited, high-energy celebration that’ll get you on your feet with dance hits from the last 3 decades – and a dance-off for the very brave!

On your feet is where you want to be when the fireworks start, and following the dance party, the kids get to help flip the switch to kick off Dolly’s Night of Many Colors. This is a spectacle of fireworks synchronized to music, including a musical show-stopper written by Dolly Parton for the occasion.

About Dusty Camp

I moved to the Smoky Mountains a few years ago from Alabama - a big change, but one I'm glad I made. I like meeting all the different types of people who visit here, and getting to know a little bit about them. I love to watch all the wildlife throughout Cades Cove, but most of all I like winter, waking up to see everything covered in snow and icicles.
