A Mountain Quiltfest 2019

A cozy mountain cabin and a nice warm and beautiful quilt just naturally go together, so it’s no surprise that the A Mountain Quiltfest is one of the most popular annual events in the Smoky Mountains. This year’s iteration is the 25th Annual and it’s taking place from March 19-23 in Pigeon Forge. Saturday, March 23, 2019 is the final day of the event, and it coincides with National Quilting Day which is coordinated by the Quilt Alliance and the National Quilt Museum.

Mountain Quiltfest 2018

Spring is just around the corner, and on March 20th, the first official day of the season, another very special event is taking place in Pigeon Forge: A Mountain Quiltfest 2018.

Tuesday through Saturday, March 20-24, the 24th Annual A Mountain Quiltfest will bring together lovers of quilts and quilting from all over. The event takes place at the LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge, daily 9 am to 5 pm (4 pm on Saturday).

This year’s iteration will take place March 21 – 25, 2017, in the LeConte Center in downtown Pigeon Forge. The event is one of the premier celebrations of quilting in one of the most unique destinations in the country, so make your plans now and begin planning your ultimate quilting itinerary.

A history of Quiltfest in the Smoky Mountain region

The practice of quilting in America stretches to the beginning of the republic itself, as wealthy colonialists who had the time and resources took up the activity in droves. As the years passed, quilting filtered down throughout the classes to become one of the most popular crafts in the fledgling nation.

Quilting is a part of the DNA of the American story, and that’s what ultimately led to the formation of A Mountain Quiltfest in the 1990s. The tradition has its roots in a joint quilt show that was hosted by two local quilting guilds, the Piecemakers and the Sevier Valley Guild. The show proved so popular that by 1995, the city of Pigeon Forge asked the guilds to organize an official event for the city. (more…)

A Mountain Quiltfest 2016 in Pigeon Forge

Springtime in the Smoky Mountains means it’s time again for the massively popular Mountain Quiltfest in Pigeon Forge. 2016 marks the 22nd year of this annual event, held March 15-19 at the LeConte Center.

The festival attracts 20,000 people from across the country and the world, who come to admire the unique and stunning quilts on display. Many attendees will also compete in over 20 categories of quilt design, for more than $22,000 in prizes.
