This weekend Ober Gatlinburg ski area celebrates Christmas with its annual Christmas on Ice show.

The event is FREE, and held at the ski area’s year-round Ice Skating Arena, centerpiece of the resort’s indoor shopping mall on the mountain.

Christmas on Ice features two evening shows, on Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at 5pm, December 6-7, 2014. Our local area skaters again put on a colorful and dynamic show set to Christmas music and themes.

Rink instructor Devon Harman once again has choreographed the entire show and planned out the routines with the skaters.

We have a talented contingent of ice skaters in the area, as we see every year when the ISI team Competition comes to Ober and our local area skaters get to compete. This weekend will show us some of the same polished moves, but it’s just for us, and it’s set to Christmas music.

With all eyes focused on the snows outside, it’s easy to overlook the indoor shopping mall at Ober Gatlinburg, and the huge ice skating rink in the center of it. But it’s a great rink for experienced and beginning skaters alike, and for many area skaters it’s never far from their minds.

The slopes are not yet open at Ober, although the Snow Tubing has been going on for a couple of weeks already. This weekend is a great time to take the tramway up and spend some time browsing the shops indoors in the warm, either on the mountain or downtown at the Tramway Mall, and catch the early evening show.

About Tony Perez

I'm a people person, and I enjoy the atmosphere that working with Cabins Of The Smoky Mountains entails, interacting with different types of people and trying to relate to each one uniquely. From Michigan originally, I've been coming to the Smoky Mountains since I was a child, with family in Wears Valley. Summer fun for me is exploring the Cades Cove area, swimming in the creeks, and hiking Mount LeConte and many other trails. I love the Smoky Mountains.
