Touring the Christmas Lights of Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge

With millions upon millions of Christmas lights in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and throughout the area, what are some of the best ways to see them? You can choose to drive yourself around town, take a scenic aerial tram or mountain coaster ride, or take advantage of local holiday transportation and travel by trolley. Here are the best ways to immerse yourself in the holiday spirit and join other revelers for Christmas fun and festivities.

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are winter wonderland destinations and both cities will be lighting up the night sky during the holiday season with festive displays and many millions of lights – often animated or synchronized to music – in celebration of Christmas. Each city has scheduled events running from November through January and February.

Smoky Mountain Christmas Festival 2015 at Dollywood

One of the seasonal events not to be missed during Christmas time in the Smoky Mountains is the Smoky Mountain Christmas Festival at Dollywood. Like every production Dollywood puts on, the Christmas entertainment is a rich experience.

The Christmas fun started on November 7, 2015, and will run through Sunday, January 3, 2016, when the park will shut down until March. There’s a lot going on at Dollywood, not the least of which are the 4 million Christmas lights on display all over the theme park.

Christmas Season 2015 in Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge

2015-11-29_161708In the days following Thanksgiving, you cannot miss the fact that Christmas season has begun, here in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge area of the Smoky Mountains.

We are deep in the Winterfest time of year, with millions of Christmas lights twinkling everywhere – strung throughout Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and the theme park village of Dollywood.

Gatlinburg 2014 Christmas Parade (and Possible Guinness World Record)

Friday, December 5, 2014, marks the date of Gatlinburg’s 39th Annual Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade. It will also be a Guinness World Record event, if 20,000 people wear a red nose!

The parade starts at 7:30 pm at Traffic Light 1A at the north end of Parkway. Some 80,000 people are expected to throng Parkway to watch the parade, and they’ll have to fight to get their red noses, because there’s only 20,000 of these to go around. (more…)

The feast and celebration of Thanksgiving is upon us this week, bringing families together and opening the Christmas season. In Gatlinburg, the annual Festival of Trees for 2014 is an event to select for customized gifts and cards, family fun, and a heartwarming start to the time of giving and receiving.

Festival of Trees is a kid-friendly opportunity to wander through a world of sparkling Christmas trees, each ornamented with unique gifts and craft works, to create and send customized holiday cards, and to take family pictures with Santa. (more…)

Every year in the Smoky Mountains, the famous colors of Fall foliage give way to the magical time of winter. The pumpkins of harvest festival and Halloween are put away against the cold and the beginning snows. And sometime in November, we have to admit it’s winter.

But in the three neighboring towns of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, winter comes in with a flourish. The three towns collaborate to schedule their festival openings over 3 days, and turn the night time into a blaze of millions of Christmas lights. (more…)
